This project was completed in order to practice my digital illustration skills using Adobe Illustrator. I focused on creating a simplistic vector design that holds a cartoon-like mandala feel. I used reference images for the colors, but all shapes are rendered by hand. When brainstorming and researching for the design direction of the Chicago Flower and Garden Show poster, I found that the roots of the show can be traced back as far as 1847. I found this to be a key piece of information in my design choices. Since the event is a well established, on-going affair, I decided to use a minimum amount of text, limiting the poster to the name, date, location and website, for those who want additional information.
Each aspect of the design can be taken apart and used for further branding. Like the individual flowers, fruits or vegetables can be featured on the website, a handout or can be used in the wayfinding for the show.
